Accessibility
This is likely to be read on a phone by somebody with very little left over for reading. That assumption shaped every decision below.

What we aim for
This site is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 at level AA. It is checked during development rather than audited afterwards.
What that means in practice here
- Text is larger than usual. Body text starts at 17px and rises to 18px on a wider screen, with a short line length. It can be zoomed to 200% without anything being lost or overlapping.
- Colour is never the only signal. Every column has a written heading, and every state — can be started, held up by something, does not need you, settled — carries a written label as well as a mark.
- Nothing needs a mouse. Moving an item across the line works from the keyboard: give the row focus and press the left or right arrow key. There is also an explicit button on every row. Dragging exists for people who prefer it, and is never the only way.
- Both columns have a plain-text version, and so does the sheet, so a screen reader or a plain-text email client gets the whole thing.
- Almost nothing moves. There is one transition on the front page, it plays once, and it never repeats. Under prefers-reduced-motion it does not play at all. Nothing flashes, nothing bounces, nothing celebrates.
- Focus is always visible, as a solid outline with a clear offset.
- The sheet prints on one side of A4, in black on white.
Measured colour contrast
These are computed ratios against the page background, not estimates. They are also recorded in a comment at the top of the site’s stylesheet.
| Used for | Ratio | Level |
|---|---|---|
| All body text | 13.15 : 1 | AA and AAA |
| Left-column headings and marks | 6.20 : 1 | AA and AAA |
| Right-column headings and marks | 4.58 : 1 | AA |
| Text of items you have marked as settled | 4.48 : 1 | See the note below |
The last row is the one honest exception, and it is deliberate. An item you have settled is meant to read fainter than everything else, because finishing something here is not an achievement to be lit up — it is one fewer thing to hold in mind. That tone measures 4.48:1 against the page, which is marginally under the 4.5:1 threshold for small text. It is used for nothing else on the site, it never carries information you still need, and every settled item also carries the written label “Settled”. If that trade is wrong for you, please tell us and we will change it.
Known limits
- The two-column board becomes one column below 48rem. On a very small screen the line between the columns becomes a heading rather than a rule.
- Dragging an item is a pointer interaction. It duplicates the button and the arrow keys and is never the only route, but it is not itself accessible.
